Saturday Farmer’s Market Lunch Week One

I know myself and that is all.

For such a structured individual, I am so very unstructured when it comes to writing. And even more so when it comes to planning what to share with you, my readers. It’s ironic how little I plan when it comes to working on this blog.

Perhaps this is why this page has become such a source of happiness for me. I love to plan, and I love to organize, and I wouldn’t lead my structured life any other way; but I  think I am able to feel this way because I’ve found small little outlets to compromise with. Writing and cooking, often unplanned but so, so very rewarding. It comes as no surprise to me that it is only my natural tendency to wish to bring some sort of structure, even if it is very small, into nearly everything I do.

Forgive me if that sounds so very contradictory. It seems to make a lot of sense in my head.

I am hesitant to say that I would like to devote Saturday’s posts to one certain subject but I think I’m going to take a little chance and do just that. We happen to have quite a nice little farmer’s market in town, which will soon move to the docks as the weather permits. I don’t visit as often as would like to, but I think it’s about time to invite this market into my weekend plans.

While perusing through the como this morning I was stopped in my tracks by the scent of freshly baked bread. A man in the corner tapped his feet wildly, as he played his fiddle. A sign at the entrance read: Nutritious fast food right this way. Light chatter of eggs and pork inquiry drifted through the air. Though I was still quite satiated from my breakfast, I was already thinking about lunch. A farmer’s market lunch.

I would select a few items to cart home and with these items I would construct a lunch. I would like to do so each Saturday, and I will share it with you here, I challenge myself to variety and creativity.

Week One: Fried Egg Sandwiches with spinach greens, avocado mash and wasabi goat cheese in between two beautiful slices of 5 grain flaxseed bread.

Farmer’s market finds include: 5 grain flaxseed bread and wasabi goat cheese for lunch today,  and blue potatoes, which will make an appearance on the dinner table Sunday night. Also, you may spy a lovely, hand carved walnut cutting board in some of the photos. By far my favorite purchase of the day.

For avocado mash: slice a very ripe avocado in half, scoop the flesh out and place in a bowl. Sprinkle with a generous helping of salt and pepper and mash with a fork.
